Before you hop on a plane, there are a few things you can do that will make your residency application process go smoothly.
At minimum, you’ll want to make sure your passport has six months or more time remaining before it expires. This time is counted from when you submit your residency application, so give yourself some extra time, just in case.
If you need to renew your passport, you’ll probably want to do that first, since it usually takes the most time.
For US Citizens:
If you need to report a lost or stolen passport, you do so here.
If you only need to renew, here is the place to start.
If you have never had a passport, you’ll need to do these things.

For other countries:
While we don’t have experience with every possible scenario, we will certainly try to help no matter where you come from.
For specific questions about your country of origin, please email us.
Additionally, you’ll need a Good Conduct / Criminal Record Check from any jurisdiction you have resided in over the last two years. Your passport stamps will be compared with your application. In larger, federated countries like the US, a state or territory level check is sufficient. You do not need to do a full FBI background check. While the process varies from state to state. US apostilles are done at both the state and federal level, depending on the document type, and the process for Canadian authentications can be found here.
Depending on the kind of visa you are applying for, you’ll need additional documentation.
For example, if you are applying for a student visa, you’ll need authenticated copies of your diplomas, transcripts, letter(s) of acceptance, and related information.
For work visas, a copy of the offer letter from the Salvadoran company will be required, and in some cases, more information about the company will be needed, such as balance sheets, registration documents, and more. Each visa program has its own requirements, and our service helps you collect all the necessary paperwork.
If you’ve prepared well, and you bring all the required documents with you, your application will go quickly. There are a few things you’ll need to do when you are here, but on average, you can expect a decision on your application within 45 days of submission. Should your initial tourist visa run out of time while awaiting a decision, don’t worry – your completed application automatically extends your visa for 90 days as if you filed a tourist extension.
